Regardless of your dancing ability, every dance class should be viewed as a new opportunity to learn, evolve, and grow. Here are some quick tips to help you get the MOST out of each class!
Have an Open Mind. Come to class with an open mind ready to learn and absorb everything! Don’t walk into class with the mindset that you already know everything there is to learn about dance.
Leave Your Problems At the Door. Try to come to class completely focused on dance instead of thinking of anything else. (Homework, Friends, Plans this weekend, etc).
Positive Attitude. Dance class is the chance to learn and express yourself. Your dance teachers are here to help you. We want to see you succeed! With that being said, stay positive. Don’t compare yourself to others… focus on YOU!
Take Corrections with a Positive Mindset. When the teacher corrects you, take that as a compliment that they care about you and want to help you succeed and improve. When they correct another dancer, listen to that correction because it may apply to you as well.
Apply Corrections As Fast As Possible. Teachers like to see dancers trying to make corrections right away, and then remembering them for the next class. Try your hardest to remember the corrections given from week to week. Try writing them in a notebook or a journal. Imagine you are adding them to a “toolbox” that you started when you first started taking dance class. Your “toolbox” contains all the information you’ve learned so far :)
